Genre: Branching narrative / adventure

Platform: Mobile

Company / Studio: Simple Machine

About: Players experience every possible occurrence of Jonathan in the universe by voting on his life choices. The project is comedic, absurd and revels in its existential dread. Contemporary works include; Rick & Morty, Florence, Bojack Horseman, and Netflix’s Bandersnatch.

My role as a narrative designer on Infinite Jonathans…

  • Develop the overall narrative direction / voice of the project (the tone and humor).

  • Conceive and write the game’s stories, characters & events.

  • Plotting/mapping a branching narrative. (Choices impact Jonathan’s journey, we needed to ensure plot still made sense, and stories connected together).

  • Writing flavor text & game dialogue.

  • Working with a back-end client to implement stories. (Minor management of back-end client made in JSON).

  • Working with illustration team to direct congruence between writing & visuals.

  • Working & leading a writer’s a room.

Infinite Jonathans was shown at PAX EAST 2019 in Boston.
